When an email bounces, the ACI Platform automatically detects it on a set schedule and processes the bounce through a series of automated steps — no manual intervention required. From status updates to return file delivery, the entire workflow runs in the background so your records stay accurate and up to date.

Bounce Workflow

1

System Watches for Bounces

The system monitors outgoing emails on a set schedule and detects any bounced messages.
2

Email Log Is Searched

The system searches the email log by the bounced email address to locate the matching campaign record.
3

Email Log Status Updated

The email log entry for that address is updated to Bounced.
4

Collection Account Status Updated

The collection account linked to that email address is updated to Bounced.
5

CSV File Created

The system creates a single CSV file containing the bounce record.
6

File Saved to ACI Return File Folder

The CSV file is saved to the ACI Return File folder.
7

Good Sync Runs Analyze and Sync

Good Sync runs its analyze and sync process on the ACI Return File folder.
8

Return File Sent to FTP via FileZilla

The return file is sent to FTP through FileZilla, completing the bounce processing workflow.

What to Expect

After the workflow completes, you can see the Bounced status reflected in two places:
  • Email Campaigns tab — displays the aggregate bounce count across your campaign.
  • Email Summary tab — shows the per-email log status so you can identify exactly which addresses bounced.
Bounce detection runs on a schedule — there may be a short delay between when a bounce occurs and when it appears in the platform. If you don’t see an updated status right away, allow time for the next scheduled detection cycle to complete.
